Paul Spraggs has been working as a Consultant in ENT/Head and Neck Surgery at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital since 1998. His undergraduate and postgraduate medical and surgical training was in London and included periods of training in Head and Neck surgery in Miami, and fellowships in Head and Neck oncology and thyroid surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and the EAFPS fellowship in Facial Plastics surgery in Helsinki.
Mr Spraggs has a special interest in the surgical treatment of skin cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, disorders of the salivary glands, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), the treatment of prominent ears, facial ‘aesthetic’ surgery and head and neck cancer treatment.
He has been Clinical Director for Head and Neck services at the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is clinical lead for Head and Neck cancer in the trust. He works closely with Consultant dermatologists in the management of skin cancer, with Consultant endocrinologists in the management of thyroid and parathyroid diseases and Consultant respiratory physicians in the management of rhinological conditions and sleep apnoea. He is a member of both the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital’s Skin Cancer and Thyroid multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and the regional SWSH Head and Neck Cancer MDT based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford.
He has an interest in medical politics and efficiency in the NHS and has been a Council member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England between 2019-2023 and is currently the Regional Director of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for Wessex and Thames Valley.
Mr Spraggs also enjoys teaching the next generation of consultants. He has been Training Programme Director for the surgical registrars in the South Thames region. He has been on the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s Board of Examiners since 2003 and the Intercollegiate Board of Examiners since 2011.
